Camper's Book: Tonic Water AKA G&T WTF is now available for sale.

A few weeks back I attended The Speakeasy, a play and a bar and an interactive experience in San Francisco. I recommend it. To get to the play, you meet a man in a public space near Civic Center, who gives you a secret map to the location. The location is a fake clock shop (this isn't spoiling things as that's on the website), through which you enter the theater. Inside there are several rooms, decorated with patterned red wallpaper and everything vintage, sort of like Bourbon & Branch. You're led to your seat, which is in one of several... Read more →

Toronto Cocktail Week runs October 1-7, 2013. I'll be there for part of that week and giving three talks at the Drake Hotel, and they're all *free* so come on up! TCW ICE ICE BABY SEMINAR A look at the ice obsession Ice is an element in nearly every cocktail in the world; it's kind of a big deal. But until the mid-1800s, it wasn't a factor in drinks at all. We'll take a look at the history of ice and how it changed cocktails forever, creating the category of Juleps and Cobblers in particular as well as "American drinks"... Read more →

Reading About Drinking in San Francisco on February 5

I'm one of several writers reading about drinking at Drink Think, a series of this sort of thing usually based in New York. The event will take place at Cantina on February 5, 2103. More info is here. I'm thinking about updating a beautiful "poem" I wrote called "Who Do I Have to F-- (To Get a Drink in This Bar)?" I last read this masterwork aloud ten years ago and someone wrote about it in the newspaper. You can read about that here. So yeah, save the date. Read more →

Ask an Irish Whiskey Distiller!

Have questions, big or small, about distillation? Whether you're going to Portland Cocktail Week or not you might be able to get some of them answered. We're fortunate to have Barry Crockett, Master Distiller for Jameson Irish Whiskey with us at Drink.Write for one seminar. He'll be on hand to answer questions about Jameson, Irish whiskey, and/or distillation in general. I'll be happy to ask any respectful questions that people leave in the comments and report back on them. So, anything you want to know? I'm curious, for example, to know about the flavor of salt and distillation. I asked... Read more →
