Cocktail Menu: 25 Lusk in San Francisco
January 05, 2011
The newish San Francisco restaurant 25 Lusk has a cocktail menu, and it is below. Some of the drinks look good but to me it reads as a bit too accessible. Know what I mean?

Over the years Musil has been called upon to develop cocktail lists for an impressive roster of establishments, including Restaurant Michael Mina at the Westin St.Francis, Ame at The St. Regis San Francisco, Town Hall, Cigar Bar, Yoshi’s and South Food + Wine Bar in San Francisco, as well as Michael Mina’s Stonehill Tavern at The St. Regis Monarch Beach.
The opening of Buffalo Grille marked the beginning of Musil’s 10-year relationship with Pat Kuleto Restaurants, including opening the renowned San Francisco Union Square restaurant Farallon as bar manager and later serving as the assistant general manager.

I mean blueberry-vodka-honey, Hendricks-cucumber, a coffee-choco-vanilla-raspberry-dessert martini, and two versions of the dark and stormy. I'm not saying these drinks are bad or poorly made - I haven't had them - but that they read a little simple compared with what's happening in SF mixology today.
Maybe the blueberry vodka drink also has like smoked macadamia shrub spheres in it and they just don't list it, but I wouldn't guess so. Some of the drinks are more intriguing and they score points for using lots of gum syrup. I'm not writing it off as a destination or anything- all the reviews talk about the awesome space- just not falling in love with the menu as written.

I like 25 Lusk however NO PISCO COCKTAIL? btw, in my opinion and observation Tequila Sours did not exist until after pisco sours became trendy a few years ago. I still like 25 Lusk and I will personally see that we get this issue fixed ;-)

Michael Musil was Thad Vogler's mentor, as you may have learned in the intervening half decade, but I just learned today.
